SERVICIO/Service SIGHT
SIGHT: Service for Information, Guidance and Hospitality to Travellers

Travel the world connecting with the Mensa community
The SIGHT service (Service for Information, Guidance and Hospitality to Travellers) is one of Mensa’s most valued and long-standing international networks. Its purpose is to connect traveling members from anywhere in the world with local members who are happy to share their time, recommendations, or hospitality.
Whether for a getaway within Spain or a trip across the globe, SIGHT allows you to discover new places through the eyes of someone who lives there.
What does the service involve?
Participation in SIGHT adapts to each volunteer's availability and is typically structured across three levels:
- Information (Information): Firsthand advice prior to your arrival regarding transportation, recommended neighborhoods to stay, local cuisine, practical tips, or points of interest off the beaten track.
- Meetups and companionship (Guidance): Meeting up for a coffee, dinner, or a stroll to chat, share perspectives on the country, and—schedules permitting—join in local group gatherings or activities.
- Occasional hospitality (Hospitality): Some members generously offer short homestays (typically 1 to 3 nights),always subject to availability and mutual agreement in advance.
What SIGHT is (and what it is not)
To ensure a smooth experience and protect our volunteer network, please keep the scope of the program in mind:
- It is: A network of courtesy, mutual trust, and cultural exchange among peers, founded on reciprocity and fellowship.
- It is not: A free hotel service, a travel agency, or logistical support for relocations, job hunting, or immigration paperwork. Hosts are never under any obligation to provide accommodation or alter their daily routines.
How to use SIGHT when traveling
- Plan ahead: Contact the coordinator at least two to three weeks before your trip so there is sufficient time to locate and reach out to local members.
- Verify your membership: The service is reserved exclusively for members in good standing. When submitting your request, please provide your membership number and your home national Mensa.
- Share your travel details: Specify your exact travel dates, the cities you will be visiting, whether you are traveling solo or accompanied, and the level of contact you are hoping for (local advice, meeting for a coffee, or potential lodging).
Interested in becoming a host or local contact in your city?
The strength of SIGHT lies entirely in its volunteers. Being a local contact does not require having a spare bedroom:simply being open to having a coffee with a visiting member, answering questions about your area, or pointing out your favorite local spots is more than enough.
You decide your level of involvement and availability at all times based on your schedule.
